"I think thrift is in my blood! Of course a big mortgage is a big factor. I still manage to put great meals on the table. For our family, choosing the cheap cuts of meat or chicken and cooking them long and slow has made a big difference to our weekly spend on food. We really love autumn and winter when simmering pot roasts, casseroles and curries fill the house with their delicious aromas and there are always leftovers for lunch the next day or for another dinner. I do plan and cook ahead. These meals give you time to catch up on family news while the cheap cut of meat simmers gently to falling apart tenderness on the stove."
